Baby Blanket + Booties

A friend of mine at work approached me about making something for her sister, who is due with her first baby in July. We looked through my copy of "The Encore 8-Hour Baby Blanket... Revisited" by JoAnne Turcotte and picked out a blanket with garter stitch edging and alternating knit and purl squares (its EBB02 in the book). I chose to knit this with a bulky weight yarn, Berroco Comfort Chunky (which is also machine washable!!), rather than the worsted weight doubled suggested in the book, on size US 11 needles. I also added two squares horizontally (to make 7) and knitted until I had 8 squares vertically. I love the way it turned out!!! Final dimensions are 32" x 36".

Baby Blanket!
Since I had some leftover yarn, I wanted to make up something quick to go along with the blanket! I came across the pattern for "Saartje's Bootees" on Ravelry, and quickly modified the pattern for the thicker yarn I was using. I think they turned out great!!

Cute Baby Booties!!

Love the buttons!
Overall, my friend couldn't be happier with her presents for her new niece :D

Abalone Sweater

After I had been knitting some more challenging items this year, I decided I wanted to try a sweater. I had never made one before, and usually liked to make quicker items, so this seemed like a good challenge. I found the pattern for "Abalone" on Ravelry and really liked it- its short sleeves seemed ideal for Georgia weather and I liked the shape of it. I'm really quite pleased with the way it turned out!!
I'm an awkward model, but the sweater is cute!

Just right for Georgia winters!

Some changes I would make next time- the shaping of the lower back still irritates me... I am not sure how to make it more gradual but I would definitely do that next time.
Lower pointy shaping :(

Also, the pattern called for "8 garter ridges" which I took to mean 8 garter stitch rows but really meant 8 purl ridges and 16 total rows. I think it still looks okay.
Should have double the edging.

Now I can't wait for the weather to cool off so I can wear it!!

Stuffed Animals!

I made the first one of these for my Dad, since sometimes he acts like a Grumpasaurus Rex! The second, I had to learn to crochet, but its just so cute I couldn't resist!! Both patterns were found on Ravelry.

Grumpasauruses!!

Angry Bird in his natural habitat.

Oh he is so angry.

Angry birds on my birdfeeders!!!

Coffee Cozy's

Here are some coffee cozy's that I made a few months ago. They work really well, and add some color to a normally bland white cup :) These are all based on the "Kitamu" cup cuddler pattern, which can be found on Ravelry! I used leftover yarn from my stash for all of these.

Old Projects

Here are some things I made a while ago-

This is a counted cross stitch I made for Lonny's parents for Christmas last year.

"My So-Called Scarf" for Mom for Christmas 2010.

A hat made for Christmas 2010.

Don't want Mom's ears to get cold!! (Made in Feb 2011)

A Christmas Beanie for Lonny.

Mittens!!

A can cozy!

"Textured Baby Blanket" from 8-hour Baby Blanket Revisited.
Made as a gift in March 2011.

A market bag made to carry knitting around- in hindsight,
not the best idea because the needles poke out of the bag.
Luckily Grammi hooked me up and made me a better one!

"Turn A Square" beanie for Lonny, a man who can never have too many beanies!

There are several old projects, hopefully the rest of my posts won't be so long!!!

First Post!

So I've been wanting to start a blog for some time now, for me to showcase things that I've made so other people can see them. So here we go!!
